Acquired Ted Chiang’s second collection of short stories, Exhalation, and its first story echoes the same ruminations on non linear time, purpose, relativity, premontion as Stories of Your Life (which the movie Arrival was based on). So I went back and reread that, seeing as how I enjoyed it so much.

And now that it’s my third or so time reading the mega-short I still enjoyed it. I think I now also appreciate how its themes mirror some Buddhist / Zen sense of awareness, of being a player of the Universe, of going with the flow, and acceptance that all things that simply are whether they are in our linear past, present, or future.

I think it’s a timely gift of a thought considering where I am now. Our baby is due in less than three months and we are definitely NOT ready for their arrival… but really it’s all been laid out, will worry or fear make things worse or better? What has happened will happen. My role is to participate, to move, to live, to give, to love…
