Rare Birds in Bintan!

What a way to start 2018! Spent last week in the beautiful island of Bintan in Indonesia  with my new officemates — though it’s weird to call them that since we live thousands of miles from each other and coordinate daily through Slack and Zoom.

Bintan is only one hour away from Singapore — which makes it perfect for a legit beach side trip if you’re enjoying an extended stay in the Lion City. We stayed in the sprawling Nirwana Gardens resort, which had strong wi-fi everywhere, even right at the beach (LOL). I went for a jog around the property and the beach side and got bruised trying to clamber over some big rocks in an attempt to do a shortcut. The local staff are v. friendly and know how to say Filipino words like Maganda (beautiful) because of Pangako Sa’yo, which was apparently being shown in Indonesia! They also gave me a complimentary bottle of ABC sambal!!! It must’ve been because I was the only guest so excited to see a random bottle of chili sauce, lol. (Last time I was in Indo was in 2010, a lifetime ago).

Remote work isn’t a new thing for me, but being part of a global team is. I’m learning so much on the job, and loving it, even when it’s very challenging. (Here’s a sneak peak of what I’ve been working on!) I know there’s still so many things to cover, but so far, I’m assured that I’m with a solid team made up of nerdy, innovative, problem-solvers.
