Last Tuesday, I went straight to school after my 2am arrival, with no sleep. Shireen Seno and Gym Lumbera (The director and cinematographer behind last year’s Big Boy) judged our midterm outputs – I was so kilig with Ms. Shireen’s comments and took to heart (dahil sabi niya lagyan ko pa ng puso) Sir Jim’s.
Then yesterday, Heinz Hermanns, the festival director of Interfilm Berlin, visited UPFI for a talk on making short films and showed us quite a few examples of films he liked. For him, a short film is anything from 10s (a nanofilm) to 18 minutes. Isn’t that an interesting idea? This is a land of cinematic, ingenious, mala-telenovela commercials, so I think it’s a good idea for the industry people to explore making films of pithy proportions. In Berlin, they show films on the U-Bahn. We can do that in LED billboards too!
Obligatory classroom shots, of course, to document these wonderful, learning-filled afternoons that affirm my conviction that yes, I’m where I need to be right now. 🙂
